Thank you for visting this board, dedicated exclusively to bashing the DMN blogger Tim MacMahon without giving him the benefit of hits on his blogs.

And all it took for a reply was Tim linking to it. I believe the word you are looking for is FAIL.

I was replying to the board originator. No one else cared either until Tim linked to it. It didn't exist in anyone else's universe until then. I stand behind the fail.

Well, Romo didn't exist until Payton/Parcells trusted him enough to make him the starter... Sometimes potential greatness takes time to recognize :P

Actually, Sports Illustrated listed him as a player to watch before the 03 draft. And, fans had clamored for him to get more playing time after he constructed a comeback win against Oakland in the 04 or 05 preseason. Real fans knew.

However, if I keep responding to your retorts, I fail. Catch 22...

That was my goal ;)...

On a serious note, real fans may have known about Romo, and some may have clamored for him after his adlib QB draw against Oakland’s 4th string defense, but anyone that says they knew he would be as good as he's been September through October is full of it.

I think most (including me) were still pulling for Henson, who was still the 2nd QB at that time.

Based on that info, wouldn't it have been partly Henson's poor performance that would have required the comeback in the first place? Henson never showed he had any football skill. Romo was a player of the year in college. Henson was a baseball player trying to play football.

It was all based off potential and trusting the coaches. Henson led the Wolverines to a Big 10 Championship in 2000, was actually drafted (albeit in the 6th rd) and was 2nd on the depth chart.

Henson didn't play poorly in the Oakland game... He was 7 for 9 with 53 yards passing. Romo was 5 for 10 with 40 yards passing. Of course people only remember the rushing TD now.

Henson outplayed Romo the game before as well (vs the Texans)...

This is all irrelevant now, but it shows there was no real reason to believe Romo would be successful at that time.

Trusting the coaches? Henson was a Jerry decision, not a coaching decision. And who cares who was drafted or not? Houston took a flier on him late hoping that they could flip him later, which they did. Romo was always the better athlete. He's not the first star player from a DI-AA school.

Jerry may have been the one to make the dumb decision to throw a future 3rd round pick for a baseball player/potential NFL QB, but Parcells is not the type of coach to leave a player #2 on the depth chart, when there's a better option at #3, just because he's told to.

Romo may be a better athlete, but athleticism doesn't always equate to success in the NFL (or any other professional sport). I believe that prior to the 2005 season, the coaching staff saw more potential for immediate contributions from Henson than Romo.
